Well... it's been that time of year for the NBA Finals... and after an up and down season... and marking my 10th year of being a fan... my Heat made it once again to the NBA Finals. What an exciting time to be a fan!!! James went into it strong, coming from an amazing series with the Celtics.
The first game verses OKC didn't end well... but I wasn't going to give up on my team this early. Game 2 came along... win! Game 3... win! Game 4... win! We entered game 5 with the series 3-1 Heat. What an exciting time!
Everyone but Josh had other obligations, so we invited Katie to join our little party. We had a blast watching the game! It seemed half of the Heat were on their 3's. Miller by the end had 7 for 8. It was crazy! And at the end, the game was a total steal, with the ending score 106-121. :)
The last time the Heat won the Finals, back in 2006, they beat the Mavs in Dallas. The stands were cleared out within 5 minutes of the game. But unlike '06, they won at home! So wish I could have been there!!! What a time to be a Miami Heat fan!!!! Can we pull off a repeat in 2013? I sure hope so!!!!
GO HEAT!!!!

Sad Time To Be A Colt
As some of you may have known, Colts have let Peyton go. After 14 years with the only team he has ever known, Manning is team less. With not knowing if he is even able to play next year, and last season realizing they don't have a QB without him, it was a hard decision to make. And I must say, how he and the team have handled it, as a fan, I couldn't be more happy. Peyton has been very "classy" (as most people are saying). As I was watching part of the news conference yesterday, hearing it from his own mouth through his own tears, I to shed a few tears. How heartbreaking it was to watch.
It's been very sad to see him go. I am so thankful and blessed that I was able to see him play in 2010 while he was still wearing blue and white. He is and always will be the best QB in football history. And Peyton will always be known as a Colt!
To watch what he and Jim Irsay (Colts owner) had to say, click here.
The one and only good thing that comes out of this, is that we will 99.9% get Luck in the draft. It's gonna be a new era for the Indianapolis Colts. And it sure will be a sad few years without #18.

Fanhood
This may sound slightly funny, but it's true. I really have to watch myself when I come across a bandwagoner. No lie! Every team I have ever liked, was not due to them winning. And I'm the type it kinda drives me crazy...
With the Colts, the start of season 2006 (Yes the year they won the Super Bowl) I became a fan. When I started watching football, I was already a Gator fan (since I'm from FL), but when it came to NFL, I had no clue who was who. I then asked my dad, "who does Peyton Manning play for?" Since I had heard his name from time to time, with no idea who he was, I started following his team. And the color blue might have had a factor in it as well.... This began my Colts fanhood.
L.A Lakers and Miami Heat was also more on the line of not knowing anything about the league. Early 2001, my family moved from our farm to the middle of Midlo. My neighbor Anthony and I would play street ball most days of the week, and he was a big Laker fan. He was my influence to begin watching the NBA. The following year, since I'm from FL, I started following Miami Heat as well. One year later, D. Wade joined the team.
Gators, like I said, was due to being from FL, Tebow's freshmen year (which they won the BCS that year). And in the spring of 2010, I had a friend convert me to Auburn. The following season, they won the BCS. Still devoted to both teams, Auburn more so than the Gators.
The only banwagons I have ever jumped on would be Lebron James and Blake Griffin. And since being a fan of James since 2006, I was beyond thrilled when he came down to Miami in 2010. I began to follow Griffin his rookie year, and enjoy watching him play his amazing game.
Now the only team I have dropped would be the Lakers. For nine years, I didn't have one favorite NBA team... but two. Till in 2011 I decided to only have one, and it made since. This team had my favorite coach as their owner (who coached this team before retiring), my top two favorite players, and in the state from which I was born. During this time, I began to see that I didn't care so much for LA's additude. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I didn't care for it. Then on top of Bryant leaving during the lockout (to me this showed poor team-mate-ness), and Gasol wanting to leave after the lockout... I lost interest.
So here are the stories to my fanhood. Tebow fits right in the the Gators.... Won't find a bandwagoner in this chick.
Go Colts! Go Heat! Go Gators! And War Eagle!!!

The outside "J"
Along with I Kissed Dating Goodbye, Crazy Love for small group and school, I am reading Game Day For the Glory of God by Stephen Altrogge. If you don't know who Stephen Altrogge is, he is one of many Sovereign Grace's songwriter and well known songwriter, Mark Altrogge's son. I follow Stephen on Twitter, and really enjoy reading his daily tweets. Anytime I want a good laugh, I can count on Stephen Altrogge! Such as today this is what he said: @stephenaltrogge - For a moment today I thought I was beholding the glory of an angel. Then I realized that it was the brilliance of my dad's white legs.
I could go on and on about the things he tweets... but I'm sure you are wondering what this has to do with the title of this post. So, if you have a Twitter, you should follow Stephen Altrogge, or if not... get one to follow him. He's the best!
Now, on to the book.
In chapter two he was talking about where we get our talent. He uses MJ a lot (which I am not to fond of) as an example. "Michael Jordan's astonishing abilities were given to him by the Maker of all things. He didn't earn them, nor did he do anything to deserve them. They were generous gifts from a generous God. Similarly, any athleticism that you possess has been given to you by God as a gift." And how true that is! Yet, we don't seem to think about it at all. At least I didn't when I played basketball or soccer. The fact that I was able to bend my knees, lock onto the goal, and use my arms to shoot and make the basket, was not me! Nor was running at a rapid speed, toward a goal and goalie, and kicking my feet to make a goal. It was God giving me the gift of talent! What a gift I wish I had been thankful for!
Later he says; "Consider the simple act of shooting a basketball. Have you ever considered all that occurs in that second it takes to shoot the ball? First, the body must be positioned so that it's facing the basketball hoop. Then the brain must make a split-second judgment to determine trajectory needed to get the ball into the hoop. The brain then determines how much arm strength and hand movement are needed to get the ball moving toward the basket. Things become increasingly complex as more variables, such as a leaping defender, are thrown into the mix. All this takes place in the blink of an eye. A fadeaway jump-shot is truly amazing." There is a form to the perfect shot, I learned it on one of the many DVD's I would watch during my non-practice times. And even now, I can pick up a ball, and know exactly how to "fix" my shot if I'm off. But the way he describes this... is amazing! I have never heard it put that way, and I think knowing already what goes into a jump-shot, on top of this, is amazing! This is not something that was formed by goo, or from monkeys, or from a big bang. It's to much detail, it can only be from God! And what a gift such as sports, he has given us!
"If we receive such intense pleasure from sports, what must the One who invented all sports be like? If we receive such joy from watching Michael Jordan play basketball, what must the God who gave Michael his incredible talents be like?" I'm not a MJ fan (at all!!!), but I think about watching Peyton Manning, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Cam Newton, Blake Griffin, Dwight Freeney, Tim Tebow... those guys that my heart starts to pound every time they do something amazing, what must God be like? He gave Peyton Manning the arm to throw a ball across 100 years, what must He be like? He gave Blake Griffin the strength to dunk over three defenders and make the basket, what must He be like? He gave Cam Newton the ability to run and break through 11 guys and make a touchdown time and time again, what must He be like? He gave Lebron James the power to pull a fadeaway feet behind the 3 point and get the ball into a whole that is no bigger than 2 feet wide, what must He be like? I can only imagine! How great is our God!!!

Team Heat!
Today was an exciting day. My team, the Miami Heat went up against the Boston Celtics for the forth time this season. Each time a heartach, except today! It was a tense game for sure. I'm not quite sure what it is, but the Celtics have a way of getting into other team's skin. And today's game was just like any other game vs. the Celtics... they were getting into the Heat's skin.
Midway through the second, as James was going up for a layup, O'Neal (not Shaq, but Jermaine O'Neal) threw his sholder into James. James being the player he is, in return threw the ball and hit O'Neal's back. Some people might not like this type of play, but this is how I see it. It was clear O'Neal was trying to hurt James in some way, and anytime James sinces himself or a teammate in danger, he reacts. I saw him do this during a game a few months ago. Someone was trying to injure Wade, and James reacted. He's not a hot head. He's just protecting his "family".
Well, refs called a T on James, and a flagrant on O'Neal. During this comotion, Pierce pushed Wade aside, and Wade pushed back. Causing a double T.
Just over 2 minutes later, the ball was lose and Wade went after it. Rondo then pushed Wade back and dived after the ball. Rondo not really having the ball even after the dive, Bosh then went down to grab it. Refs called it Celtics ball (which it was clearly a jump ball). At Bosh's surprise, he got really mad, getting himself a T as well. Like I said, it was a tense game... and this was still all in the first half.
Second half came around and it wasn't as bad as the first, but it was still pretty heated. I was holding my breath for most of it. And my dad was getting a little irritated.
At the end Heat sealed it with a 23 point lead, 100-77. The clock was still going when Celtics left for their locker room.... Can we say sweet victory?
But I am still amazed that my favorite player in the NBA, Lebron James, would have ever gone to the Miami Heat! My team since 2002! I can remember how I found out. I almost passed out... really! What a day to remember!
Him and Wade, along with Bosh, make the Dream Team!
I am proud to be a Heat Fan!

What the Heck?
I love sports. I'm a little over board when it comes to it, not like your typical girl. I'm starting to think I might not ever find a guy who will like having a girl whose as into storts as I. But only God knows. And if it's His plan for me to enjoy sports alone, then He is really gonna have to give me strength. Cuz it's no fun watching them alone and Twitting about it because theres no one to talk to. I'm 100% my fam is sick of hearing me talk about it all.
In the last week, I posted that I have made the decision to only have one top team in the NBA. After 9 years of Miami and LA Lakers being both my teams, Miami is now my favorite team, followed very, very closely by the Lakers. After a great start to the season, they aren't doing so hot. As of right now, they have a 5 loss streak. Not cool! But it makes no since! Both Wade and James have a great game, averaging 25+ points each, and most games getting triple doubles, if not very close to it. Even Bosh more than half the time has a decent game. Three players right? So why are they losing. From what my dad and I have been reading, Wade and James on different occasions have spoken how they are not pleased with their Coach. And after watching the games from this past week, I'm convinced that the Miami Heat is becoming a team divided. It's not only team vs. team on game nights, but players vs. coach. And I personally don't think Spoelstra knows how to handle a team with 3 all-stars.
Another thing, stop switching the freakin' starting line up. Want my opinion? Mario Chalmers at point, Dwyane Wade and Lebron James as guards, and Chris Bosh and Erick Dampier down at post. What a team that has been! When they put James at point, he can't do it. He does better when he is not in control of the game. He's not a point. Then, when you put guys like Mike Bibby in the mix, forget it! Sure, sub him in for a few minutes, seconds even, to give the guys a break. But then take him right out! Please! I'm not one to get ticked off about sports like some people... but this is really making me start to sin!
Well, that's my two-cents.

I Have Concluded...
Today is the first day of March, as you should know. But as March begins, March Madness draws near! Tis the season for basketball!!! I'm bursting with excitment for it! I've been outside shooting, been watching my teams on our new 42" HD TV, and yesterday watched Lebron James' movie "More Than a Game" (which I loved!). Then last night, I was so in the mood to watch basketball, I went onto the ESPN app on my 360 and watched the Auburn vs. Arkansas game from last Saturday (even though I knew they had lost by 2).
Well, to get to my point. If you don't know, since 2002 I have had two NBA teams. The LA Lakers and Miami Heat. Lately I've been thinking, and have finally concluded... I have one I like more than the other. It just made since. One of these teams has my top two basketball players... my favorite coach of all time not only coached for this team, but is now the owner, and I live in the state they represent. Miami Heat is now my team of teams! Followed very closely by the LA Lakers.

I'm Proud To Be A Colt!
Here is a random fact; Super Bowl 46 (which is next year) will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium. Which if you didn't know, is the Colts Stadium, since 2008. I am a big Colts fan, and I've been doing some reading on ESPN and other sport websites, that say because of the Colts hard season last year, Peyton Manning and the team will be back on top in the 2011 season. Something you can always count on with Manning, he'll have an off year, but will be back the next year to finish big.
Just look at season 2005, they finished with a great year of 14-2, they had a bye Wild Card week, but lost to the Steelers in the Divisional Playoff game. Then in 2006 (the year I became a fan), with a 12-4 record, they played the Bears in the Super Bowl and won!
And again in season 2008. they finished with a great regular season, 12-4, but lost to the Chargers the Wild Card week of the Playoffs. But in 2009, came back strong and finished the season with a record of 14-2, and went to play the Saints in the Super Bowl.
Last season they finshed with 10-6... and knowing Manning, they'll be the team this year!
Well to get to the point... if they do make it all the way this season coming up, my Colts will be the first to play in the Super Bow at their home Stadium! What a first to have! I'm hoping, praying, keeping my fingers crossed, and counting on my team!
GO COLTS!

Auburn vs. Florida! WAR EAGLE!
This afternoon as I was checking my Twitter, I saw that on the SEC blog, last night Auburn announced it's 2011 schedule. As I was reading, I saw that on October 15th (aka my birthday) Auburn is playing the Florida Gators. This made my day!!! As most of you know I use to be a Gator, but became an Auburn Tiger last April. Florida is now my 2nd favorite team, and my brother and sister are still loyal to the Gator Nation, so Josh said we would love to go to that game. Looks like we have my birthday plans!
Here is the post on the SEC blog.

What a Year for Sports!
This past year was a great year for sports. Maybe not for some people... but it was for me.
Most of you know I was a Gator fan, but I was more rooting for Tebow. Last April, a friend and I made an agreement, I'd be an Auburn fan if he would be a Colts fan. And so began my fanhood of an Auburn fan.
Now when it comes to NBA, I have two teams. Some people don't understand this... so let me explain. Back in 2001, my neighbor Anthony, was the first to get me into NBA. He was a Lakers fan, so that's how I became a fan. In 2002, since I am from Florida, I became a Miami Heat fan. And since then, I have had two teams. Now some years, I'll root for one more than the other. Like last year, Lakers made it to the Playoffs. Or this year, I'm rooting for Heat more than the Lakers, since Lakers have now won two years in a row, I want Heat to go all the way. But then again, a threepeat would be sweet! But like I said, Lakers won the Championship. After a 7 game series, they beat the Boston Celtics!
When basketball was over, James said he wanted to leave the Cavs. I was hoping and crossing fingers he would go to Heat. For many years, it's been a dream for him and Wade to be on the same team. And one night, when I was checking ESPN (most of the time a daily routine), there on the front page, "Lebron joins the Heat". I screamed! No lie, this was one of the best days of my life. Lebron and Dwayne! What a team!In October, for my 20th birthday, we went to Jacksonville for the Colts and Jags game. That was amazing! After being a fan since 2006, I finally saw my team! I must say, I did start crying when they came running out. But I never thought I would see my team running out like that in my life. What an experince! The whole game was a close one, and at the last 30 seconds, my Colts lost.
October 23rd, I went with my boyfriend to the Auburn vs. LSU game. This was my first college experince, and I must say I like going to a college game more than a Pro. There seems to be more to it. You have the band, traditions (such as the eagle flying around the field), and the fans seem to be more into it. In the end Auburn pulled the win off! War Eagle!
Start of January came, and this meant Playoff and Bowls. On January 8th, Colts played the New York Jets. They ended up losing, but after the year they had, I was just happy they made it to the Playoffs. January 10th came, this meant the BCS Championship game. Auburn Tigers vs. Oregon Ducks. Auburn won! War Eagle!
Since football is over, basketball begins. As of right now, both Heat and Lakers are second in their conference. Doing pretty good so far.
This year I'm hoping for another good sport year! Go Colts, War Eagle, Go Lakers and Go Heat!

Brown Stew Chicken
For Christmas, my wonderful sister got me the "NBC Sunday Night Football Cookbook". Recipes all done by NFL players, NFL chefs, NFL commentators, Faith Hill, and John Madden. Most of you know I am a sportsaholic, and love football. So I screamed when I opened it.
The first one I did, of course had to be a Colts recipe. And who better than one of my favorite players and defensive end, #93 on the Indianapolis Colts (a.k.a my team), Dwight Freeney (who I saw on October 3, 2010 when we went to see the Colts play the Jacksonville Jags). Brown Stew Chicken he said is a Jamaican recipe.
It calls for;
- 2 1/2 pounds bone-in chicken pieces (we used chicken tenders)- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black peper
- 1/4 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp all-purpose adobo seasoning
- 1 tsp plus 2 Tbs brown gravy mix
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves. chopped
- 1/2 green bell pepper. diced
- 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1 scallion, chopped
- Vegetable oil for frying
*We could not find adobo seasoning so we Googled a substitute. Here it is;
- 4 Tbs salt
- 3 Tbs onion power
- 3 Tbs garlic power
- 3 Tbs ground black pepper
- 2 Tbs ground oregano
*Also, red peppers were nowhere to be found. So we just used the other half of the green, and it tasted just fine.
In a large bowl, sprinkle chicken with the salt, pepper, thyme, adobo, and 1 tsp of gravy mix. Then add onion, garlic, peppers, tomato, and scallion and toss. This needs to be covered in the fridge for an hour or two.
Once marinated, remove chicken from the bowl and brush all vegetables off, and put them to the side. In a deep pan, head 2 to 3 inches of oil and fry the chicken to golden brown. When done, remove the chicken and place in a skillet and pour veggies on top, along with 1 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a boil. When heated, turn it down to a lower heat, and simmer for about 30 minutes or until chicken is cooked through and tender. Once again, remove chicken into a serving bowl. In a small bowl, mix together 2 Tbs of gravy mix and 1 cup of water. Constantly stire, but gradually add in the gravy to the vegetables. Simmer for another 5 minutes, until thickened. Pour over chicken.
We served it on top of rice with cornbread. But Freeney said he does it over rice and beans. Either way, is up to you.
Bon appetit!
(Yes, I had to drink out of my Colts tumbler)

Bad Weekend for Watching Sports
So this weekend, I wasn't sure if I would be able to watch any football this weekend cuz I'm in Richmond. Well, I was. Yay... kinda. Saturday afternoon Kaitlin and I were hanging out at GG's and we were watching the LSU vs. Ole Miss game. I was clearly rooting for Ole Miss... and they lost. Later that night I was watching the FSU vs. Maryland game.... GG and Don even came and watched it with me. Well, if you are up to date with sports, FSU won. And if you know me, I hate FSU. But it was fun watching football with GG and Don.
Sunday, I came home from Kingsway, and yes, I was rooting for the Steelers. And they did win, but then we started to watch the Colts game... and what a game. I felt so bad for Peyton. 3 interceptions . And also for Collie, he kept wanting to come back into the game, but they wouldn't let him. Before the half they were down by 14, but knowing my Colts, I was not so worried knowing they are a second half team.
Half time we headed over to the Kury's for dinner. They did come back in the half like I knew they would... but it wasn't 100%. We were all getting excited, it was so close. Karli and I were squeezing each other's hands, we were so nervous. It came down to the last few seconds, Colts were down at the Patriots' 20, and Manning got ready to throw to Tamme with 40 seconds left of the 4th... but it was to far, and a Patriot intercepted it. This was Manning's 3rd for that game, making it a total of 7 this season.
I'm not the kinda fan that says, "Oh, my team is perfect, they did everything they could." They didn't. Just like the Jag game I went to, they were not out there to play football. Peyton didn't do so well, along with the D and receiver's. We are hurting, with Addai, Clark, Collie, and many other starters out... but the backups could really step it up.
I then watched the Giants and Eagle's game last night... and the Gaints lost.
Well, this week Auburn takes on Alabama in the Iron Bowl and Colts are going up against the Chargers on Sunday Night Football... and I hope we tear them apart! WAR EAGLE & GO COLTS!

Epic Weekend
This past weekend (10/01-03/2010), my family, Mark and Sean all went to Jacksonville to see my Colts play the Jaguars.
Friday, we arrived at my aunt Kelly's at 2a.m.. I was to excited, that I was not able to sleep much. So Saturday had an early start.... It was a pretty chill day. Mark and I watched the Auburn game in the movie theater room. They won! 52-3. =D Jacob took Josh, Mark and I on a ride on the golf cart on the golf couse. There was also lots of pool playing. Later that night we watched the Florida vs. Alabama game. Poor Florida. 6-31. =( Sunday, was another early start... thanks to my excitment. haha But it never hit me that I was going to see my team till we saw the stadium. When we got to our seat (at the very, very top) it was amazing! Even tho we were at the very top, we really did have agreat seats at the 50 yard line.
When my team, in their white and blue uniforms ran out, yes... I started to cry. haha I was so overwelmed with joy! This site was something I never, ever thought I would ever see. It was amazing! haha One of the best moments of my life. haha Mom brought dad's hunting binoculars for us to see closer... and it was so cool! I was able to see their faces! It was such a close game... and the last few seconds of the 4th, Jacksonville kicked a 59 yard field goal. The ending score; Jacksonville 28-31. =( I was very bummed, but I was still very happy I saw my team!
It was an amazing weekend! Not only did I see my team, but I also got to spend time with my boyfriend! =)

Sports News
This past weekend was filled with mixed feelings. Sad, on Saturday... and very happy on Sunday.

Florida Gators played Alabama for the SEC Championship. Going in with a 12-0 record, they lost... 13-32. What a sad game! Both Offense and defense did not come to play, and did not play as the Florida Gators. During the 3rd quarter, Tebow (QB - Sr.)... and if you don't know who he is, Tim Tebow was homeschooled and is a very strong Christian! <3...>
The hardest part of it all, was when Tebow started to cry at the end. For one, he tried his best to get is team to play... but they just did not do it, as well as being his last game with Florida, or even forever. =( sniff sniff... But what a leader!!! But I personally know what that feeling is like... being so wrapped up in basketball. It's very hard!

Now on Sunday was a different story!!! =) The Colts.... well...
WON ONCE AGAIN!!!!!
They played the Tennessee Titans, and the score was 27 - 17. Titans scoring with just a few seconds left on the clock... and like the Gators... it was to late. Giving my wonderful Colts a 12-0 record. =) So I am still wearing those earing every day!!!! Talk is going around that my Indianapolis Colts (12-0) will be going to the Super Bowl in 2010 (man that is weird to say!) against the New Orleans Saints (12-0). What do you think? Would love to see what your vote is... so vote on the poll I have posted on the side of my blog... Colts? or Saints?
=)Brittany
